The day will come when for one reason or another you will have to sell your Static Caravan and this can often be a very sad or stressful time. The first person to inform that you want to sell should be the park owner/manager as they will be able to tell you how you can sell it and may offer to buy it from you themselves. Check your contract with the park when you bought the caravan, was there a clause stating you had to give the park owners first choice or maybe it states you cannot sell it on the park over a certain age. It is very likely that it will state a commission will have to be paid to them regardless whether you found a buyer or they did. If you cannot sell your caravan on the park and it has to be sold off site, check if you will have to pay a disconnection and tow off fee, if so you will have to make allowance for this figure when setting the selling price of your caravan. If no restrictions exist now you have to decide where and how to sell your caravan:- Will the park owners try and sell it for you, often this is the easiest and maybe they will take a part exchange in against your caravan which will widen the market or some parks have a waiting list of people wanting a caravan. Sell to dealers/other park owners, this is often the best option if you are wanting a quick sale. The price they offer maybe less than you could get for a private sale but often the final figure is not that different when you take into consideration the commission you may have to pay on a private sale. Dealers can be found in Yellow Pages or the Internet. Private sales will often mean more involvement for yourself dealing with potential buyers showing them round and communicating with them. You will probably get a better price but be very careful not to go over the top with advertising as this will eat up any extra money you may have made. Let as many people know you are selling as possible word of mouth is the best and cheapest form of advertising, cards in local shops, ads in the press and magazines or the internet. Let us advertise it for you on this website, the first month is FREE just click here and send us your details. Remember be realistic when pricing your caravan if it is sold on a park, fully sited, on a pitch it will be worth a lot more than if it is to be sold off site. Be prepared to loose money even if you have only owned it for a short time, they are very much like cars and depreciate in value and not to be confused with Mobile Homes which recently have increased in value in certain areas. |
